Biography

Having graduated from Durham University with a First Class Honours Degree in music, Charlotte Wilson gained a scholarship to study at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, from which she recently graduated with an MA in Orchestral Performance.  Since starting the flute at age 7 she has had the opportunity to be taught by some highly distinguished players including Sarah Newbold, Clare Robson, Jonathan Burgess, Eva Stewart and Matthew Featherstone, and has participated in masterclasses with William Bennett and Adam Walker. 

Charlotte's postgraduate studies were generously supported by the Musician's Benevolent Fund, The EMI Sound Foundation, The Dorothy Grinstead Memorial Fund and The Michael James Music Trust.
 
Charlotte has given many performances, both as a soloist and with several orchestras.  She is currently playing with the Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra as Second Flute for their 2015-16 season.  While at the Royal Welsh, she performed with the Welsh National Opera in a side-by-side scheme and played principle flute in the RWCMD Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra.  She was also on placement with the Welsh National Opera and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales.  Before her degree, Charlotte was principle flute of both the Croydon Youth Orchestra and the Whitgift Chamber Orchestra.
 
Charlotte has also taken part in many music festivals and competitions. She was recently a finalist in the Concerto Competition at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and received a gold medal at the Marlow Music Festival.  She has also been awarded the Jonathan Myall Music Prize and the Win Maber Award at the Croydon Music Festival, and received the Recital Cup at the Sutton Music Festival. Charlotte is a founding member of the Oriole Trio (flute, clarinet and piano)..
